Factorio Modded Playthrough #3

Factorio Modded Playthrough #3
Here's where we finished off...

Right, here we are. If you are not sure what happened last time, then check here for the previous post!

I've had a good think, crunched some numbers, drawn some diagrams. I've had to fill the steam engines up twice with coal by hand so far. And whilst I could just run a belt, I could just rip the temporary system out and install a bigger, better system that is self-sufficient.

Look how cool this diagram is!

This diagram shows the process required to generate 108 MW of renewable power. To do this I'll need: 23.4 Assemblers and 57.6 Algae farms. This build uses Assembler 1 and Algae Farm 0's. That's a lot more space than I thought of originally. Oh well! The good point to note is that I could possibly use this to produce a little Carbon or CO2 as required to bootstrap maybe Electronic Circuits or something.

Too much shame. All the assemblers are out of power.
All the red warnings of shame.

And just as I start the project, a black out. I did not fill the boiler again. However, this shows continued growth of the skunk works, now producing Steam Engines, Boilers and Algae farms. After refilling the boilers, I started the grand design of the power plant. Four rows of 15 boilers, each with two steam engines. Adjacent to that is the assemblers for the green algae to wood bricks, looking very tidy. Below this will be the algae farms in four rows of 12, which is slightly overbuilt, but will be useful if I need a little more algae for circuits.

Why did I decide to build this half in a forest?!

Oh and all my iron stopped as the furnaces for stone bricks ran out of fuel. This also needs a more permanent solution. The side effect is all the equipment I need to finish the power plant isn't ready, yay! Meanwhile, here is what everything almost looks like if it was all complete. There is still a little space for all the composters, however, I have forgotten to queue that research up so I have a bit of time for that to be ready.

Did you know the GUI has the items per second displayed for a building? That you don't need to sit down with a calculator, a spreadsheet and a big stack of paper? I didn't know, and didn't find out till after I worked this entire power plant out! Reassuringly, all my maths was right.

And just like that, a weeks passed and no time to play. It's okay, the first week back tends to be chaos at work as everyone catches up on all the work that probably should have happened. Hopefully I'll get a little more time next week to sit and play, but bring on the weekend. Sitting down on a Friday gives me enough time to finish the power plant. All 120 steam engines will slowly come online to produce all the power I should need for a while.

Big power. Until its no longer big enough.

If you like this build, let me know below or find me in the Angel's mods discord. I do plan to keep up with the diagrams, as basic guides, so future suggested diagrams are welcome. Next post will feature some skunk work overhauls in preparation for metallurgy, advanced mechanical refining and arboretums.
